Description

Mandrogi is a reconstructed traditional Russian village. It is a romantic vision from the past. The village is located on the shore of the Svir River, which connects the greatest European Lakes Ladoga and Onega. The distance to St. Petersburg is 270 km. Mandrogi is a relatively new 'village' established by Russian entrpreneurs specifically to cater to the tourist trade. It has already become a favorite stop for cruise ships traveling the river route between St. Petersburg and Moscow. This unique village, which was built in the last few years, is very similar to a 19th century Russian village. Although the wooden architecture is similar to the 19th century, there are included all modern conveniences of electricity, telephone, e-mail, sauna and modern bathroom facilities. While visiting Mandrogi guests can take a look at the work of craftsmen (pottery, blacksmith's work, dressmaking). They can also ride a horse, practice archery and visit elk farm. Another attraction is the Museum of Vodka. This traditional alcoholic drink is made of grain. Many dishes of Russian cuisine can be washed down with vodka, like pan cakes and caviar. The museum exhibitions show the history of the drink and the process of its productions. There is a tasting bar where the visitors can taste best sorts of Russian vodka.
