Russian MuseumTour SummaryWe invite you to admire one the largest collection of the Russian art dating from the 11th century up to our days that is located in Michael’s Palace. Russian Museum was the first state museum of fine arts in Russia; it was founded in 1895 by the decree of the emperor Nicholas II. Now the collection of the Russian Museum counts with 400 000 exhibits and covers all historical periods and the development trends of the Russian art, all its main kinds and genres, tendencies and schools for the last 1000 years: since the X till the XXI centuries. During this excursion you’ll have a great opportunity to observe over 5000 Orthodox Icons with a real chef-d’oeuvre of the Russian icon painting – “Angel with golden hair” icon of the XII century. Our guide will also show you the masterpieces of the Russian art of the XVIII – XIX centuries: a great painting by Karl Brullov – “The Last Day of Pompeii”, “The Brazen Serpent” by Feodor Bruni, “The Ninth Wave” by Aivazovsky and others. You’ll also explore the history of the development of Russian painting of the XX century famous for such painters as Repin, Petrov-Vodkin, Serov, Vrubel, etc. Excursion to the Russian Museum will give you not only an opportunity to adore Russian painting but also to discover the soul of the Russian people that is definitely reflected in the national art!
